We have an advertisement on display below. This is the beginning work for the ‘09 football season highlights. Please remember we are looking for song suggestions to add to the montage. Songs like AC/DC’s Thunderstruck, Hollywood Undead’s song titled Undead, and Disturbed’s Indestructible were some of the ones that have been suggested. We need the football players and the students that might want to purchase a copy of the final DVD to make suggestions for songs.

I have been listening to Slacker Radio a lot lately.  I developed a bit of a love-hate relationship with the software last night, as it was continually shutting down on me, and giving me several other issues aside from that.  Frustrated with the issues I was having, I started posting tweets, about my troubles.  In proper twitter form, I used a #slackerradio hashtag each time I said something about Slacker.  A few hours later, I got a tweet from @scottriggs, the Senior Director of Radio at Slacker, it said:

Tweetfromscottriggs

I did just that.  It turns out that I was running an older version of Slacker’s software, and the newer version had some much-needed improvements.  I am now merrily listening Slacker Radio, with no issues at all.  Shortly after my issues were taken care of, I made sure to send another tweet hashtagging #slackerradio, telling everyone that my issues were fixed, as well as thanking Scott Riggs for helping me.

Twitter made this happen.  I was not trying to get a hold of anyone about my problems with Slacker Radio.  I was merely posting tweets about what was going on with me at that moment.  Had I not been posting those tweets about Slacker, I probably would have never checked for customer support, and probably would have quit using Slacker Radio all together.

Record Numbers!

Generation-X Albums has seen record amounts of traffic this month.  We would like to thank everyone for visiting our website.  We hope you check back often to see if we have any updates, or new changes.  You could also become a fan of our Facebook page, as we update that frequently.

In my personal experience with Generation-X Albums, I have come to find the importance of a website, and the time it takes to make sure that the website looks professional, still holds function, and most importantly, is known by the general public.  I owe a lot of thanks to a friend of mine, Mike Mock, for his advice, and knowledge about building a website.  Check out his blog page here. Although me and my brother built the entire site on our own, a lot of what I know is thanks to him.

Two Second Advertising

Author: Alex

I was speaking to my Brother recently about making a billboard for Generation-X Albums.  He and I have begun to toss some ideas around.  As we do this, I have quickly come to find just how ineffective most billboards are.

I would like to challenge you for a moment.  Do a Google search for “Billboard.”  Next, click on each image, and look at it for two seconds, and then quickly look away from it.  Ask yourself “Did this billboard portray a message within the two second time span?  Did I understand what this billboard was trying to advertise?”  You may shocked to find how infrequently you will say yes to those questions.  It saddens me to see how many people not only pay to have a billboard, but also pay to have a billboard designed, when it does not do it’s job.  As you are driving down the road, you will have no more then two seconds before the driver will have to avert their eyes back to the road.  That makes for a short time span to portray your message.

There are two things that you want to push for when you design a billboard, simplicity, and hierarchy.

Simplicity (Keep it simple, stupid):
When it comes to billboards, generally a simple design is the best design.  The viewer only has two seconds before they quit looking at the billboard.  You need to ensure that whatever you want to convey, is conveyed with the least amount of things on the billboard as possible.

Hierarchy:
In conjunction with simplicity, hierarchy can ensure the view makes sense of the image as quickly as possible.  If you direct the person’s eyes with your design, you can ensure they viewer is seeing the image in the way you intend it to be viewed, therefore helping them understand the message quicker.  When doing your design, try going to people, flashing the image at them, and ask them “What was the first thing you looked at when you seen this image?”  If they answer the question with an object you did not want to be seen first, then make some changes, and try again.

In conclusion, Simplicity and Hierarchy are the two most important things to keep in mind when you’re designing.  If you consistently push to design at this high of a profile not only for billboards, but advertisements, brochures, or any other form of advertising, you will find that your work consistently will become more effective.
